The Indie Author Community

Every author dreams of having their book published by a big publication house. They think if that happens, they have it made. While that is true in some cases, for the most part their books will sit on shelves for a little while and will be pulled because they aren’t selling well enough. It’s a sad, but true realization a lot of authors find.

I, and many of my friends, have chosen to go the Indie route. There are many reasons different people choose to do this. For me, it was simple, A wanted to get my work out there. I had challenged myself to get a book done and get it up on Amazon for no other reason than to say I did it. That doesn’t mean I didn’t fret over every little word, believe me I did, It was just a challenge I had to accomplish to prove to myself that I could.

Being an Indie means that all the work that has to be done, is done by you. You not only have to write the book, you have to edit, format it, get it up on what ever site/s you want, market, market and market. It can be a daunting task and it is not for the faint of heart. I am not complaining. I have enjoyed it a great deal. The main reason for that is the people that I have met along the way.

Indie authors are a unique group of people. We come from every background. Every race. Every creed. What I have found over the last six months is that they are the people who will most help you. It is the only job I have ever found where your competitors are the ones most rooting for you. It doesn’t matter if you are in the same genre, they will put the word out for you. If you need help finding an artist, they will tell you who they have used. Anything and everything that you may need, Indies will help you find it.

One of the reasons I started this blog was to help others learn about the great people I have met along the journey I have chosen to take. They are funny, talented people who deserve to have the work that they do acknowledged. Many people will turn their noses up when they hear the words Indie when it comes to talking about books. If you are one of them, take a chance, I know you will find some great works out there.

To all my Indie family, thank you. You have all been an inspiration to me.

Hi, My name is Jamie Dodge. I am a full time writer and a full time caregiver. I generally write science fiction, but will dabble in almost anything, I can't write romance to save my life. I was born and raised in Central Florida into a large Italian family. The youngest by four years I had the advantage of being taught to read by the time I was 3. I don't think a day had gone by since then, where I haven't had a book in my hands at some point. One day I figured I would try my hand at it, so I wrote my first novel, The Forgotten Edge. I always get asked why I use the profile picture I do. I wish I could tell you, but I can't. It is a promise I made a few years ago, and I will honor it until I am given permission not to. That's it. That's me. I hope you enjoy my ramblings about my writing process and the other things that I find interesting.
